Scot Bertram | Hunter Biden Stripped of his Law License in Washington D.C.
Friday Apr 04, 2025
Friday Apr 04, 2025
Here are 3 big things you need to know—
One — President Donald Trump has announced far-reaching new tariffs on nearly all U.S. trading partners. That includes a 34% tax on imports from China and 20% on the European Union. Trump says he was placing tariff rates on dozens of nations that run trade surpluses with the United States, while imposing a 10% baseline tax on imports from all countries in response to what he called an economic emergency.
Two ---- The man who was found outside Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's home with weapons in 2022 intends to plead guilty to a federal charge of attempting to assassinate a justice of the United States. Roske was found in June 2022 outside Kavanaugh's Maryland, home armed with a gun, knife and burglary tools, according to court documents. He could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
And number three — Hunter Biden is going to be permanently stripped of his law license in Washington, DC. The son of former President Biden agreed to "consent to disbarment" in an affidavit filed on Tuesday after a recommendation from a disciplinary agency. The DC Court of Appeals must now accept the recommendation to then accept Biden's consent to disbarment before making it official.

Scot Bertram | TikTok may have Found a Buyer...
Friday Apr 04, 2025
Friday Apr 04, 2025
Here are 3 big things you need to know—
One — U.S. stock futures sank as President Donald Trump unveiled sweeping tariffs of at least 10% and even higher for some countries. Shares of Nike and Apple each dropped about 7%. Big sellers of imported goods were among the hardest hit. Five Below lost 14%, Dollar Tree tumbled 11% and Gap plunged 8.5%.
Two ---- The Michigan Supreme Court has ruled the odor of marijuana alone isn't a sufficient reason for police to search a car without a warrant. In a 5-1 opinion, the court threw out gun charges against a man whose car was searched in Detroit in 2020. Voters in 2018 legalized the possession and use of small amounts of marijuana by people who are at least 21 years old, though it cannot be used inside a vehicle.
And number three — TikTok may have found a buyer. The New York Times reports Amazon has submitted a bid via office letter to Vice President Vance as well as commerce secretary Howard Lutnick. The deadline for China-based ByteDance to sell TikTok is Saturday or it will be banned.

Friday Apr 04, 2025
Here are 3 big things you need to know—
One — President Trump is making major changes in the form of tariffs on what he calls "Liberation Day." The tariffs cover a wide-range of products and are targeting many countries, including Canada, Mexico, China and the European Union. Trump says trading partners have looted, pillaged, and raped American industries for decades, leading to a loss of U.S. jobs and manufacturing.
Two ---- Democrats are taking the feds to court in an effort to stop eleven billion dollars in public health funding cuts. Twenty-three states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit against the Department of Health and Human Services, asking for the cuts to be put on hold. They argue the administration made the cuts unlawfully without analyzing the benefits of the funding, or possible consequences of removing it.
And number three --- A new poll from Marketing Resource Group finds 50-percent of voters in Michigan support President Trump's efforts to handle immigration and deport people in the U.S. illegally. That is a huge jump from their poll last spring that found just 21-percent approved of then-President Biden's handling of the same issues. Voters in northern Michigan are 71-percent in support of President Trump's efforts while metro Detroit has the lowest support at 42-percent.

Scot Bertram | General Motors Sales up 17% Compared to Previous Year
Wednesday Apr 02, 2025
Wednesday Apr 02, 2025
Here are 3 big things you need to know—
One — President Donald Trump will hold a meeting today with aides about possible investors who could buy a stake in TikTok. A deal like that could potentially stop the social media site from being banned in the United States. Among the possible investors are the software company Oracle and the investment firm Blackstone.
Two ---- Cory Booker has broken the record for the longest Senate speech ever, at more than 25 hours. The New Jersey Democrat started his filibuster in protest of the Trump Administration. And by this afternoon, no one will remember a single word of it.
And number three — General Motors is reporting a 17-percent sales increase in the first quarter compared to last year. The company sold nearly double the amount of electric vehicles, making GM the second-largest seller of EVs in the U.S. Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company is reporting U.S. new vehicle sales dropped by over one percent in the first quarter, compared to a year ago. The company says the drop is due to rental fleet sales and the discontinuation of their transit connect van and Ford Edge SUV.

Here are 3 big things you need to know—
One — Polls will be open in Wisconsin and Florida today in what's being seen as a national political power struggle. In Wisconsin there's a state supreme court election, and Florida voters will decide two pivotal vacant House seats that could shift the balance of power nationally. Both sides see the races as a referendum on the direction of the country since Donald Trump's election victory.
Two ---- The bodies of three of the four missing U.S. Army soldiers in Lithuania have been found. The soldiers went missing during a training mission last week. The M88 Hercules armored recovery vehicle they were in was lifted out of a swamp earlier today. The search continues for the fourth soldier.
And number three — A recent study finds that a lack of sleep can lead to an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. The lead author of the study from Yale School of Medicine says if the brain doesn't spend sufficient time in deep sleep it can lead to shrinkages in certain parts of the brain affecting specific functions over time. Adults typically need up to eight hours of sleep a night.
