—Here are 3 big things you need to know—

 

One —  Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is in Israel today to get an update on the war in Gaza.  His visit comes as President Biden has criticized Israel over mounting civilian casualties as it tries to destroy the Hamas.  There have been hints that Israel could move to a lower-intensity strategy in the New Year and if that's the case, Austin wants to hear the plan.

 

Two—  Michigan's average gasoline price is under three-dollars a gallon for the first time in 2023. Triple-A Michigan says the statewide average is down 15-cents from last week to two-dollars-96-cents, which is 35-cents below last month and 12-cents less than last year.  The state's highest price is in Marquette at three-18, while Traverse City has the lowest prices at two-87 a gallon.

 

And number three — One Democratic senator is comparing the flow of immigrants to the U.S. to a sold-out concert.  Speaking on CNN's State of the Union, Joe Manchin of West Virginia said the U.S. is at capacity and it's become dangerous to let more people enter the country.

—Here are 3 big things you need to know—

 

One —  No injuries are reported after a car collided with a vehicle that was part of President Biden's security detail Sunday in Delaware.  Biden was walking to a waiting SUV from his campaign office when a car hit a Secret Service vehicle being used to close off intersections.

 

 

Two—  A bomb threat against a synagogue in East Lansing is under investigation. East Lansing police, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, and Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety responded around 11 a.m. Sunday to the 19-hundred block of Coolidge Road. ELPD says they determined the threat was not credible and they are looking for whoever made it.

 

And number three — Dozens of granola bars and cereal products are being recalled for potential salmonella risk.  The Quaker Oats Company issued the recall on Friday, advising consumers who bought the affected products to throw them out.  The affected products are listed on the FDA site, but it includes flavors of the Quaker Chewy Bars and puffed granola cereal.

One —  Federal lawmakers are pushing to have salon workers trained to spot signs of domestic violence.  Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn and Democrat Senator Tammy Duckworth are set to introduce the Salon Stories Act today.  The bill would provide grant money to states that make it a requirement for aspiring cosmetologists to take domestic violence prevention courses in order to obtain their licenses.

 

Two—  According to the Washington Post, Elissa Slotkin has expressed concern to allies that she may not be able to win her Senate race if Biden is at the top of the ticket. That's according to people familiar with the conversations. A spokesman for Slotkin’s campaign said she looks forward to running with President Biden.

 

And number three — A major storm packing strong winds and heavy rain is threatening holiday travel as it barrels up the East Coast.  Forecasters say strong winds, heavy rain and flooding are likely from the mid-Atlantic to New England throughout the day.
