—Here are 3 big things you need to know—

 

One —  Police in Houston are releasing more details on the shooter at Joel Osteen's megachurch.  Early reports say the shooter Genesse Moreno had a history of mental illness and was involved in a dispute with her Jewish ex-husband.  Authorities said Monday that she had an anti-semitic background and a sticker that read "Palestine" was attached to the butt of her rifle.  Moreno entered the church Sunday with her seven-year-old son before she was shot and killed by off-duty officers.  

 

Two—  The price of gasoline increased dramatically in the past week according to Triple A Michigan.  The average price went up on average by 26-cents to three-dollars-26-cents a gallon which is the highest so far this year.  The price is 40-cents a gallon more than just one month ago. Higher demand and reduction in the gasoline supply are being cited as the reason for the increase.  

 

And number three — A Nor'easter is expected to clobber parts of the New England coast with heavy snow and the risk of flooding in parts of Pennsylvania and southern New York Tuesday.  Winter storm advisories and warning are also in effect for northern Arkansas, Oklahoma along with parts of Missouri and Kentucky.

One —  Former President Trump wants the Supreme Court to extend the delay in his federal election interference case, claiming that he has immunity.   The trial was originally scheduled for March 4th, but that has already been pushed back as higher courts consider his broad claim of immunity.

 

Two—  Robert F. Kennedy Junior is apologizing to his family after a Super Bowl commercial in his support.  He wrote on X, that's he's sorry if the ad caused any pain to his family. Kennedy said the American Values Super PAC created and aired the advertisement without his campaign's involvement or approval.

 

And number three — Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is expected to make a full recovery after he was hospitalized Sunday for an emergent bladder issue.  Officials say Austin transferred his powers to Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks.  The 70-year-old retired general has been treated recently for prostate cancer and was admitted to the critical care unit.

One —   Former President Trump is endorsing head of the North Carolina GOP Michael Whatley as the next chair of the Republican National Committee.   He also supported his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to serve as co-chair.  Current chair Ronna McDaniel is expected to step down following the South Carolina primary at the end of this month.

Two—  The Senate is moving forward with a 95-billion-dollar aid bill for Ukraine and Israel, but its fate in the House is uncertain.  The money, which is for Ukraine's defense against the Russian invasion and for Israeli security assistance, passed a Senate procedural vote with the help of 18 Republicans in a rare Sunday session.  This, despite former President Trump's opposition.  

 

And number three —  Some Uber, Lyft and DoorDash drivers are set to strike on Valentine's Day.  Drivers' groups said Monday they're seeking fair pay.  This is the first strike call since Uber and Lyft went public in 2019.  Groups said drivers are going to picket outside airports and Uber officers.  Drivers won't provide rides to and from airports between 11 am and 1 pm in nearly a dozen cities.

Two—  The Federal Communications Commission is cracking down on robocalls that use voiced generated by artificial intelligence.  In an expansion of the 1991 Telephone Consumer Protection Act this week, the FCC outlawed scam phone calls that feature AI generated voices.

 

And number three — The Kansas City Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions.  The Chiefs defended their title after coming from behind in overtime to beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in Super Bowl 58 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.  Patrick Mahomes was named Most Valuable Player for the third time in his career after finishing the game with 333 yards, two touchdowns and a pick.

One —   Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin is back in the hospital.  Austin was taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after experiencing symptoms contingent with a emergent bladder issue according to Pentagon officials.  His duties have been transferred to Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks. 

 

Two—  The King of Jordan will be at the White House today to discuss the precarious situation in the Middle East with President Biden.  It's Biden's first meeting with King Abdullah since three U.S. soldiers were killed in Jordan in a drone attack carried out by an Iranian-backed militia.

 

And number three — The Kansas City Chiefs are now back to back Super Bowl champions.  The Chiefs defended their title after coming from behind in overtime to beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in Super Bowl 58 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.  The 49ers have now lost each of its last three Super Bowl appearances.
