Jon Schweppe, The Senate has a key opportunity to incentivize family formation and expansion through the Child Tax Credit

Last month, the House passed the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, a bipartisan tax deal that would extend some of former President Donald J. Trump’s most successful economic policies, including the Child Tax Credit, Research & Development Expensing… all the while ending wasteful COVID-era programs. But the Senate must step up and pass this legislation to kickstart the economy.

 

In light of this news, I wanted to offer Jon Schweppe, policy director of the American Principles Project, to join the show at CPAC to discuss. He’d be able to speak to the following:

• Pro-investment policies, like Research & Development expensing, will help boost manufacturing and keep business in America, not China.
• The Senate has a key opportunity to incentivize family formation and expansion through the Child Tax Credit.
• Additionally, Schweppe will be able to speak as to how Bidenomics is punishing American workers and families with lower wages, higher interest rates, and rising costs. We cannot tax our way out of this economic crisis, but this is an opportunity to pass a pro-growth bill that will put dollars back into the hands of manufacturers, small businesses, and families.

One —  Donald Trump is the winner of South Carolina's GOP presidential primary, coming out on top over the weekend after already winning in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  In South Carolina, the win is significant as it means White House hopeful Nikki Haley lost in her own home state.  Haley, for her part, is making it clear she's still in the race.  

 

Two—  The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is confirming a child in Oakland County has the first case of measles in the state since 2019. The child's case is linked to international travel and officials say no one outside of the home is believed to have been exposed. 

And number three — AT&T is going to provide customers affected by Thursday's network outage a five-dollar credit.  In a statement on its website, the cellular provider said that customers will receive it within two billing cycles.  AT&T says a software update is to blame.  The service disruption started early Thursday, and was a major headache for many, with phone services limited.

One —  President Biden is set to host congressional leaders Tuesday to discuss funding for Ukraine, and ways to avoid a government shutdown.  Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will be on hand according to the White House. 

Two—  It is a little more expensive to fill the gas tank this week in the state. Triple-A Michigan says the average gas price is up four-cents a gallon to three-dollars-25-cents. The price is up 26-cents in the past month and five-cents less than last year. The most expensive gas is in Lansing, Saginaw, and Ann Arbor at three-27, while Marquette has the lowest price in Michigan at three-ten. 

And number three — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says total victory is within reach once its operation in Rafah is completed.  Speaking on CBS' Face the Nation, Netanyahu said the military operation involves evacuating Palestinian civilians from Rafah.  Netanyahu defined victory as destroying all Hamas battalions along with freeing all the hostages.

One —  Two congressmen are trying to get a bi-partisan border security and foreign aid bill onto the House floor.  Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and Democratic Congressman Jared Golden of Maine said on CBS' Face the Nation they believe their bill can get the necessary 218 votes in the House.  They also stressed the urgency to provide aid to Ukraine after a city fell to Russia last week.
