Here are 3 big things you need to know—
One — The illegal immigrant convicted of killing Georgia nursing student Laken Riley has received life without parole. Jose Ibarra was found guilty on all ten counts by the judge who handed down the verdict after Ibarra waived his right to a jury trial. The prosecution said Ibarra went hunting for women on the University of Georgia campus and encountered Riley on her morning run in Feburary.
Two ---- Michigan Republican Party chairman Peter Hoekstra has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be the U.S. Ambassador to Canada. Hoekstra served two decades in Congress representing west Michigan and also served as U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands during Trump's first term. He was the chairman of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee during his time in Washington, DC.
And number three — Nearly 300-thousand homes and businesses are still without power after a bomb cyclone hit the Pacific Northwest this week. At least two people were killed by the storm that slammed into Western Washington. One woman died when a tree fell on a homeless encampment north of Seattle. And in Bellevue, a woman was killed when a tree fell onto her home.

One — The Justice Department wants a federal court to force Google to sell off its popular Chrome web browser as part of an antitrust case. The request made Wednesday comes after a court ruled that the company holds a monopoly in the online search market. Department lawyers say that spinning off Chrome, used on billions of devices around the world, would help prevent an illegal monopoly from happening again.
Two ---- A Florida man is under arrest for allegedly plotting to bomb the New York Stock Exchange. Court documents say Harun Abdul-Malik Yener of Coral Springs wanted to "reset" the U.S. government. He was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempting to use an explosive device to damage or destroy a building used in interstate commerce.
And number three — The race for the Michigan state House between incumbent Democrat Jim Haadsma and Republican challenger Steve Frisbie might get a recount. Frisbie won the election, but by just 61 votes as of yesterday. Haadsma's attorney Chris Trebilcock says a recount could be requested after the State Board of Canvassers certifies the state's vote count, which needs to be done by Monday.

One — Ukraine says Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile at the country Thursday, a claim at least one Western official denies. The official told ABC News the missile, aimed at the southeastern city of Dnipro, was a regular ballistic missile. But The Ukrainian Air Force says it tracked the launch of an ICBM.
Two ---- Ford will cut four-thousand jobs in Europe by the end of 2027 due to weaker-than-expected sales of electric vehicles, pressure from competition, and economic worries. Most of the jobs slashed will be in Germany with 29-hundred, while Ford will also cut 800 in Britain. The automaker employs 28-thousand people in Europe.
And number three — Texas Governor Greg Abbott says more giant buoys are going in the Rio Grande. The state installed the floating border barrier last year in order to deter illegal river crossings. The Justice Department sued Abbott to try to force the removal of the barrier. In an X post on Wednesday, Abbott said Texas won't back down from its efforts to secure the border.

One — President-elect Trump is naming transition co-chair Linda McMahon as Education Secretary. She was given the nod after Trump named his other transition co-chair Howard Lutnick to lead the Commerce Department. McMahon directed the Small Business Administration during Trump's first term and is the former CEO of WWE.
Two ---- More than 75-thousand deer have been harvested since the opening of firearm deer hunting season on Friday. In all, around 173-thousand deer have been legally harvested this year including archery season. Firearm deer season lasts until November 30th and archery season will reopen December 1st.
And number three — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is offering a five-million-dollar reward for each hostage released from Gaza. He also said people who help free Israeli hostages from Hamas will be given passage out of the devastated Gaza Strip. He made the announcement Tuesday on a visit to Gaza, where Israel estimates around 100 captives are still being held.

One — Donald Trump is nominating Doctor Oz to lead the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The CMS oversees Medicare, Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance and Healthcare.gov, which provide coverage to nearly half of all Americans. Dr. Oz posted on X Tuesday that he looks forward to working with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Two ---- Hospitality workers are keeping the pressure on state lawmakers to make changes to the minimum wage increase due to take effect next year to keep their lower tipped wages in place. One State Representative who sponsored a bipartisan bill to address the issue and says restaurants will suffer if they don't take action. The Michigan Supreme Court ruled that lawmakers violated the constitution when they adopted a petition to raise the minimum wage and then amended it during lame duck session.
And number three — Ukraine is firing American missiles into Russia. Officials in Moscow say they shot down five U.S.-made missiles Tuesday. It's the first time Ukraine has launched a strike on Russian soil since President Biden gave the okay for the country to use U.S. weapons against Russia.

Two ---- President Biden has approved sending antipersonnel landmines to Ukraine in its war against Russia. Multiple reports said Tuesday that the U.S. expects Ukraine to use the mines in its own territory in a region where Russian troops have made significant advances.
And number three — Most U.S. households will spend about the same or less on energy this winter, but some states may face higher costs due to colder weather. According to the Energy Information Administration, states like Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Illinois, and Kansas might see natural gas bills rise by 10 to 15 dollars per month. Electric heating may see a 2-percent increase, while natural gas prices will vary, with some areas dropping and others, like the Midwest, expected to rise by 11-percent.

One — President-elect Trump is picking former Wisconsin Representative Sean Duffy for the role of transportation secretary. Duffy served in the House from 2011 to 2019 and was a member of the Financial Services Committee. He left the House in 2019 after one of his children had a heart condition, and currently hosts a show on Fox Business.
Two ---- A new state law is aiming to curb auto theft in Michigan. Around the state, there were over 25-thousand vehicles stolen in 2023 and between 85-and-90-percent were stolen by thieves using Auto ProPad devices. Those devices allow thieves to program a blank key to start a car. The new law took effect last month to make possessing a ProPad without a legitimate purpose punishable by five-years in prison, and ten-years if someone uses it to actually steal a vehicle.
And number three — Parts of Florida are expected to feel what's left of Tropical Storm Sara. Remnants of Sara dissipated yesterday morning after bringing more than three-feet of rain to Honduras. The National Hurricane Center says the storm could bring tropical moisture to the Sunshine State and the northern Gulf Coast on Wednesday.
