Stateline, a project of The Pew Charitable Trusts, will release its 2016 Legislative Review series. Stateline provides daily reporting and analysis on trends in state policy. This series is an annual look at the trends and issues that dominated debate in state capitals during the last legislative session. The series found criminal justice reform, opioid abuse , minimum wage, family and medical leave, and privacy protection as the top issues and challenges for states in 2016.

Against the backdrop of global, economic uncertainty, House Republicans just released a tax plan that will help Americans keep more of what they earn by repealing the Death Tax and cutting individual rates. The plan also calls for a “fairer” and “flatter” tax code as well as a tax filing system for Americans that should be on “something as simple as a postcard.”
